General Structure
The students and I meet weekly or monthly, depending on the different schools I work with, and we read a variety of books. We meet at a pre-selected location, often the school campus, for a couple hours and discuss the carefully-selected book through a wealth of analysis activities, discussions, and fun word games. We also take breaks for physical activity, understanding the importance of being active, and we work to include this benefit as often as possible. In addition, we encourage students to bring any of their friends and peers who are interested in reading. We frequently receive video messages from the authors of the book we read that provide advice and further inspire the students to continue reading. Lastly, we always prompt students to let us know what they would like the program to change or include, and we expand our program each year to new locations and settings.
